Divorce
Studies show that almost half of the couples who married in 2005 can expect to be filing for divorce after merely three to five years of marriage. Sadly the rate of divorce has gone up and many couples are now opting out of marriage. If you are currently considering divorce but don’t know what is involved in the process or where you stand with being able to go through with it then here at Legal Angles we can help. The team of professionals here at Legal Angles will provide you with all of the help and advice that you will need about what to expect when going through a divorce proceeding as well as guiding you through everything that will be involved in the proceedings.
There is only one real ground for divorce; if the marriage has completely broken down and is irretrievable. In order for a divorce to take place one of the following facts has to be proven:
- There was adultery of the other spouse
- There was unreasonable behaviour of the other spouse
- Two years’ desertion has taken place
- The couple has lived apart for two years and the other spouse consents to divorce
- The couple has lived apart for five years (no consent needed)
The law does not however permit divorce in the first year of marriage.
